Swim, Bike, Run - Ironman Style

This Saturday, I'm throwing my stuff in the car and driving to Houston to see my brother run the Ironman Texas Triathlon, a race where he'll swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles, then follow it up with a marathon.  While I'm excited to see my brother run, he also is running this race to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Our connection to this cancer society goes a little further than a race.  Nearly two years ago now, my Uncle Ray (Mark is in all technicality my cousin) was lost to multiple myeloma.  This is an incredibly virulent and painful form of blood cancer, and in my Uncle's case, took him from us in 6 short months.  In the time since then, I've donated my hair to Locks of Love, walked for the American Cancer Society, and donated blood.  To say this is near and dear to my heart is understating things.

We're pretty close to the donation goal, but not quite there yet.  So while I'm not usually one to flog things on the internet for this one I'm just gonna go ahead and do that.  If you've got an extra $10 burning a hole in your pocket, this would be a great place to put it.  The donation page is available here: http://nca.lls.llsevent.org/mwilliams
